Iranian soldiers dead at Pakistan borders

The judiciary’s Mizan Online site reported that 6 border guards were killed in an attack in Saravan, in the province of Sistan-Balochistan bordering Pakistan.

Sistan-Balochistan is one of Iran’s poorest provinces and home to the predominantly Sunni Baloch minority.

The province is the scene of constant clashes between security forces and Baloch rebels, extremist groups or drug traffickers.

Iran’s Fars news agency confirmed that the attack was carried out by a “terrorist group that was trying to infiltrate the country”, but that it “fleed across the border after the confrontation”.

The agency pointed out that the deputy commander of the national police and the commander of the border guards arrived in the area to investigate the incident.

And last March, two police officers were shot dead during clashes with “armed criminals” in the same area, according to the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
