Lahore: A man and his sister, separated 75 years ago during the India-Pakistan partition, were reunited at the historic Kartarpur Corridor. This meeting of both became possible through social media. This information was received from media news on Monday. India’s 81-year-old Mahendra Kaur was reunited with her 78-year-old brother Sheikh Abdul Aziz from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir at the Kartarpur Corridor after she learned through a social media post that they were separated during Partition in 1947. Were brothers and sisters. During Partition, Sardar Bhajan Singh’s family was tragically separated from the Indian part of Punjab, when Aziz moved to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, while other members of his family remained in India.

He got married at a young age but always longed to be reunited with his parents and other family members. Through a social media post detailing the separation of a man and his sister at the time of Partition, the two families learned that Mahendra and Aziz were in fact estranged siblings. Overwhelmed with joy on Sunday, Mahendra Kaur repeatedly hugged her brother and kissed his hands as the two families paid obeisance together at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur. They also exchanged gifts as a symbol of their reunion.

After the amicable reunion, the Kartarpur administration garlanded both the families and distributed sweets. The Kartarpur Corridor connects Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan’s Punjab province with Dera Baba Nanak Gurdwara in Gurdaspur district in India’s Punjab state. The four kilometer long corridor provides visa-free access to Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit the Darbar Sahib.
