Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy skipped a scheduled meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, the Brazilian leader has said.
“A bilateral meeting with Ukraine was scheduled in this room. We waited and received information that they had been delayed. In the meantime, I received the President of Vietnam. When the Vietnamese president left, Ukraine did not show up. He (Volodymyr Zelensyy) definitely had a different meeting,” RIA Novosti reports Silva’s remarks at a press conference.
The Brazilian president said the meeting was scheduled for May 21 at 3:15 p.m. local time. Silva admitted that he was neither disappointed nor upset by the failure of the meeting, because “Zelenskyy is an adult and knows what he is doing”.
According to the Financial Times, Lulu da Silva was persuaded to meet Zelenskyy by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Volodymyr Zelensyy, commenting on the situation, said that Silva should have been disappointed, not him.
