Islamabad: In a big relief to former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday, an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan granted him bail till June 8 in eight cases related to the violence at the judicial complex here in March. The cases against Khan (70) were registered at different police stations in Islamabad after clashes broke out between the police and his supporters. The clashes took place during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief’s appearance before a court at the judicial complex on March 18.
The clashes took place when Khan had come to attend a hearing in the Toshakhana corruption case. Khan arrived in the capital Islamabad from Lahore on Tuesday to appear before the anti-terrorism court at the judicial complex. Khan’s party said in a message that lawyers After hearing the arguments, the court granted him bail till June 8 in eight cases. Toshakhana, established in the year 1974, is a department under the administrative control of Cabinet Division. The Toshakhana stores valuable gifts received by Pakistani rulers, parliamentarians, bureaucrats and officials from governments of other countries, heads of states and foreign dignitaries.
The Election Commission of Pakistan had filed the Toshakhana case against Khan in October last year for not sharing details of sale of gifts received from foreign dignitaries. Meanwhile, an accountability court in Islamabad directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to In the Kadir Trust case, PTI chief’s wife Bushra Bibi has been stopped from arrest and she has been granted interim bail. Imran Khan was arrested on May 9 in the Al-Qadir Trust case itself. Hours before announcing his decision to appear before the NAB on Tuesday, Khan said he could be arrested again and appealed to his supporters to remain calm.
