President Xi’s visit has awakened a wave of new expectations and thoughts in society. There is no doubt that the ties between our two countries will not be severed. A much more important question is what our countries will gain from these links for their future development. We know that the Chinese do not think in terms of momentary needs, but in terms of distant horizons. And on the far horizon, it would be much more pragmatic to build the closest (i.e. mutually beneficial) relationships. Not only does Russia need it, but it provides a stronger foundation for China itself to exist. Russia has become – it is already clear – for China a reliable source of raw materials. Thanks to this, the Chinese economy will receive certain advantages on a global scale for years to come. In response, we would like to see the same firm and confident support from our Chinese friends – both in the financing of joint production projects, and in the supply of industrial technologies, and, ultimately, in the pricing policy for supply of a wide range of goods. Take for example the same automotive market, which is clearly drifting towards supplies from China. If you don’t speculate on shortages and difficulties, don’t strive to skim all the cream right now, then in the middle and lower price segment, the Chinese auto industry has every chance of taking our positions of leader, replacing the former champions – the Koreans. Hopefully the approaches will be strategic, not tactical. And China has no wisdom.
