Trump refuses to plead guilty to possession of classified material

Former US President Donald Trump, during a hearing in Miami, said he would not plead guilty in the case of improper handling of classified documents discovered during searches of his home in August 2022. He also denied allegations of obstruction of justice. informed CN.

According to the channel, during the hearing, the politician was officially arrested, and Trump’s closest aide, Walt Nauta, was also under arrest. Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed in November 2022 by Attorney General Merrick Garland, was present in the courtroom.

The indictment on nearly 40 counts was announced by the special prosecutor last week, while noting that he would seek a speedy trial. On Tuesday, June 13, the articles on which Trump is accused were officially made public.

Trump himself said after the searches that he was ready to voluntarily hand over the seized documents, assuring that their contents had already been declassified.

In November 2022, Donald Trump applied to run in the 2024 presidential election. If the politician is found guilty, he faces a prison sentence.


This is the second indictment against Donald Trump and the first-ever charge against a former US president by federal prosecutors. Earlier, the ex-head of state became a defendant in the case of falsifying business documents and transferring $130,000 to porn actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election for failing to leaked information about her relationship with him in the mid-2000s.
