Bangladesh created history, defeated Afghanistan by 546 runs

Dhaka (Dhaka). Centuries in both innings by Najmul Hussain Shanto and excellent performance by the bowlers helped Bangladesh to win the one-off Test at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday. Defeated Afghanistan by 546 runs.

This is Bangladesh’s biggest win in Test cricket in terms of runs. At the same time, this is the third biggest win overall in Test history. It is also the largest margin of victory in red-ball cricket since the 20th century.

In this match, Afghanistan won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. Bangladesh scored 382 runs in their first innings losing all wickets thanks to Shanto’s brilliant century of 146 and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (76). Apart from these two, Mushfiqur Rahim scored 47 and Mehndi Hasan Miraj scored 48 runs.

Nizat Masood took 5 wickets in the first innings for Afghanistan. Apart from Masood, Ahmedzai took 2 and Zaheer Khan, Amir Hamza and Rahmat took 1-1 wickets.

In response, Afghanistan’s first innings was reduced to only 146 runs. For Afghanistan, only Nasir Jamal (35), Afsar Zazai (36) and Karim Jannat (23) could put up some fight. For Bangladesh, Ibadat Hussain took 4 wickets, Shoriful Islam, Taijul Islam and Mehdi Hasan Miraj took 2-2 wickets.

Bangladesh got a lead of 236 runs on the basis of first innings. Bangladesh declared their second innings at 425 for 4 thanks to centuries from Shanto (124) and Mominul (121 not out) and set a target of 662 for Afghanistan.

In the second innings, apart from Shanto and Mominul, Zakir Hasan (71) and Liton Das (66 not out) also played excellent half-century innings.

Zaheer Khan took 2 wickets and Aamir Hamza took 1 wicket for Afghanistan in the second innings.

Chasing a target of 662 runs, the Afghanistan team was reduced to just 115 runs and lost the match by 546 runs. In the second innings, only Rahmat Shah could put up some fight for Afghanistan, Rahmat scored 30 while Karim Jannat scored 18.

In the second innings for Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed took 4 wickets, Shariful Islam took 3 wickets and Mehandi Hasan Miraj and Ibadat Hussain took 1-1 wickets.
