The Kingdom calls on the G20 countries to cooperate in order to strengthen flexible food systems

During the meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the G20 countries, which was held in Hyderabad, Republic of India, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called for the necessity of cooperation. To strengthen resilient food systems that respond to the challenges facing the world, in order to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadhli, head of the Kingdom’s delegation participating in the meeting, which was held under the slogan (One Land, One Family, One Future), stressed the importance of cooperation in the main areas that enhance food systems, to meet the challenges of food and agricultural production systems. ; Especially after the “Corona” pandemic crisis, and the global demand for foodstuffs continued to rise steadily with the growth in the population.

He pointed out that strengthening rural communities by focusing on educating and empowering women and youth; Among the factors that guarantee the achievement of food security, as the Kingdom launched, since 2018, the Sustainable Rural Development Program, which covers (8) different fields, and succeeded in achieving a noticeable increase in the income of beekeepers by up to (50%), while it achieved an increase by ( 10% of the income of small farmers who depend on rain-fed agriculture.

Al-Fadli explained that responsible investment in agricultural and food production systems is one of the main factors in achieving food security, through the use of modern technologies and innovations and providing financing for them to contribute to enhancing the efficiency, flexibility and sustainability of the food sector, and in this the Kingdom has worked to increase loans to more than ( 10) fold; To adopt modern technologies during the past five years.

Minister Al-Fadhli said that the Kingdom focused on highlighting “digitization” as a major catalyst in the process of transforming the agricultural sector. And that is by improving the efficiency of using natural resources, improving performance, and increasing productivity.

Concluding his speech, the head of the Kingdom’s delegation stressed the world’s need to reorganize all humanitarian programs to effectively address the challenges of food insecurity. 772) food security projects in (71) countries successfully, calling on the Ministers of Agriculture in the Group of Twenty, to work within the framework of sustainable development goals; To seize the opportunities of the twenty-first century for a secure and sustainable future.
