Attack on the Chongar Bridge. What is known

– Published on:

On the morning of June 22, the head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, announced an attack on the Chongar bridge, located on the administrative border between the Kherson region and the peninsula. Acting governor of the Kherson region Volodymyr Saldo said that the armed forces of Ukraine, according to preliminary data, may use Storm Shadow missiles. How the attack will affect the logistics of Crimea and who will help restore bridges – in Russian media material.

The first report of the bombing of the Chongar Bridge appeared at 7:35 a.m. on the Telegram channel of the leader of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov. No one was injured in the attack, he said.

“Right now, explosives experts are doing a review to assess the type of ammunition. Profile services have begun inspecting the roadway. The possibility of movement will be reported within the hour, ”wrote the head of the republic.

The acting governor of the Kherson region said that during the attack on the bridge, according to preliminary estimates, British Storm Shadow missiles were used.

“The pavement was damaged on the bridges. There are no human victims. We have an answer for every enemy step. Communication between the Kherson region and Crimea continues to work – the movement of vehicles along the reserve road has been temporarily organized,” Saldo explained.

“Chongarsky” is a double-track railway bridge across the Sivash Bay on the Novoalekseevskoye – Dzhankoy section, as well as an automobile bridge on the E-105 highway.

Head of region examined damaged bridges and noted that this blow “will not reverberate in any way” during the military operation.

“It is symbolic that this barbaric act was perpetrated by the Kiev regime on the morning of June 22, the day the Great Patriotic War began. They seem to specifically show their historical continuity with Nazi Germany. But their end will be the same, ”says his telegram channel.

Later in a conversation with reporters, Saldo informed that the bridges between the Crimea and the Kherson region will be restored in a few days, builders from other Russian regions will contribute to this.

“Already, specialists and builders were sent here from Russia, from the Rostov region. Myself, as a specialized civil engineer, I see that here in a few days the usual traffic will be restored, the one that was here until this morning, ”he explained

Member of the Council of the Russian Zaporizhzhia Region Administration Vladimir Rogov noted that the second shot fell on the old unused bridge over the Sivash.

The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the attack on the bridges.

Changes in logistics

Oleg Kryuchkov, adviser to the head of Crimea on information policy explain that three checkpoints connect Crimea with the Kherson region: two in the Armyansk region and one in the Dzhankoy region. According to him, a failure in the operation of one of them cannot fundamentally disrupt the transport logistics of the land transport corridor.

“Due to the damage to the platform of the Chongarsky Bridge, the redirection of traffic flows to the Armyansk and Perekop checkpoints has been temporarily planned,” Kryuchkov explained.

Regular buses that previously passed through the Dzhankoy checkpoint have been redirected to the Armiansk checkpoint. Convoys of transport trucks are sent to the Perekop checkpoint, the adviser to the head of Crimea noted with reference to the regional Ministry of Transport.

By words Crimean Transport Minister Nikolai Lukashenko, the Crimean bridge and the ferry operate as usual.

“Currently, the movement of cars and buses on the Crimean Bridge is carried out as usual. The ferry service operates both as a railway part and a road part. Armiansk checkpoints, taking into account the redirection of traffic flows, operate normally,” said the head of the department.

Acting Minister of Industrial Policy of the Republic Elena Elekchyan noted that the peninsula is fully supplied with food and industrial products. The warehouses have a stock of products, the market is saturated, she added.

Warning Shoigu

Two days ago, on June 20, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that the leadership of the Ukrainian armed forces planned to strike Russian territory, including Crimea, with HIMARS and Storm Shadow missiles.

According to him, the use of these missiles outside the area of the military operation will mean the full involvement of the United States and Great Britain in the conflict and “will lead to immediate strikes on the decision-making centers in the territory. of Ukraine”.

In May, the UK became the first country to supply Ukraine with long-range Storm Shadow missiles. These missiles are capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 250 km. According to CNN sources, Kyiv promised that Storm Shadow would only be used “in the sovereign territory of Ukraine” and not for strikes against Russia. At the same time, British officials have publicly called Crimea a sovereign territory of Ukraine on several occasions.

In February, the US government included GLSDB projectiles with a range of up to 150 km for the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system in the program of military assistance to Ukraine. These shells can hit all territories annexed to Russia, northern Crimea, as well as Bryansk, Kursk and Taganrog.
