Higher education in China at the ‘pinnacle of excellence’

The rise of China has become a topic of discussion in the world at this time. China has made great progress in many fields, but when it comes to higher education, the relevant figures tell a success story of the last two decades. There is a need to learn from China’s achievements in the field of higher education, as this is an area where China has Emerging as a leader in you. Between 2016 and 2018, China published over 900,000 research papers. This figure puts it at the top of natural science publications, surpassing the United States, which published about 600,000 papers in the same period. China spends more than $650 billion a year on education, and this investment Since then, a substantial increase in the quality of education across the country has begun to be seen. Growth can also be measured by assessing global university rankings. While there were only two Chinese universities in the top 100 in 2010, today there are 12 Chinese universities in the top 100, with Tsinghua University ranked 15th on the list. According to the 2020 Times Higher Education Rankings, 7 of the top 10 universities in emerging economies are Chinese. At present, 8 million students graduate from China’s higher education institutions every year. This is more than the total number of graduates from India and the United States of America combined. This number is expected to triple by the beginning of the next decade. China has a two-pronged approach, focusing on increasing the number of institutions—enhancing their quality as well as regulating them. As a result, Chinese universities regularly feature in the top ranks of world university rankings. China has worked diligently to address fundamental deficiencies in its higher education and has been able to place itself impressively in global rankings. Relentless efforts at the governmental levelAfter the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the country has Fully centralized system established. The free-market reforms under Deng Xiaoping led to major changes in the education system. Education was seen as a tool for advancing the Party’s ideology and values, as well as a vehicle for the dissemination of principles and a vehicle for the country’s development progress. In the 1980s and 1990s, China’s specialized higher education Institutions (HEIs) came together to build larger, more diverse universities. Today the Ministry of Education (MOE) sets the overall education policies and guides the way of educational reforms. It decides the curriculum and examination content of the school system. It manages the universities and the higher education system itself. The establishment and monitoring arrangements are decided by the provincial educational departments. The National Entrance Examination (Gaokao) is also decided by the ministry. The Gaokao is an extremely comprehensive test that lasts 2-3 days and more than nine hours and can be taken an infinite number of times after high school. With some variations, it is also the most important criterion for admission to an institution of higher education. Compulsory education legislation requires the completion of at least nine years of education, starting at about the age of six or seven. The government is now emphasizing on making pre-school education also of global standard. The plan has two objectives: world-class education and literacy, and both have almost been achieved. This program is the foundational program that prepares students for secondary education and subsequent entry into high school, and helps prepare all students for higher education. Despite many challenges, the Chinese higher education system has developed over the past two decades. has made tremendous progress and has been able to make its presence felt in the top rankings of global institutes.
