The North Atlantic Alliance will send about 10 ships to the Baltic Sea to protect underwater infrastructure.
NATO will send naval forces to the Baltic Sea to protect important underwater installations.
There will be about 10 ships in total, they will remain at sea until April of this year. The ships will be located near energy and telecommunications cables and will act as a “deterrent”.
Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said in early January that the Alliance intends to increase its presence in the Baltic Sea following the incident with the damage to the Estonian-Finnish power cable Est Link 2. He also praised Finland for detaining the tanker Eagle S, which is suspected of sabotaging Est Link 2 and allegedly belonging to Russia’s “shadow fleet.”
According to United 24, NATO is set to deploy up to ten naval vessels in the Baltic Sea to secure critical underwater infrastructure, as part of a new operation that will begin at the end of this week and continue until April.
According to Pravda, The anchor of the Eagle S vessel detained in Finland has been found and lifted from the bottom of the Gulf of Finland. The Central Criminal Police of Finland suspects that the ship’s anchor cut the EstLink 2 electric cable between Finland and Estonia and damaged four communication cables.
Earlier, Finnish police banned crew members of the Eagle S tanker from leaving the country.
