Will Smith’s family has another October arrival. Cara Smith, the Los Angeles Dodgers catcher’s wife, announced the birth of their third daughter, Carter, on Wednesday, hours before he played in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series.
“Our third October baby girl… Carter,” she wrote on Instagram. The announcement made Smith a father of three daughters, all born in the month that defines baseball’s postseason.
Carter joins Charlotte, born in October 2022, and Layton, born in October 2024, Fox News reported. The latest announcement gives the family an October arrival in three consecutive even-numbered years.
The timing placed the news between two very different demands on Smith. Los Angeles had travelled home after Milwaukee took a 2–0 NLCS lead, and the series break preceded Wednesday’s game at Dodger Stadium. The announcement confirmed Carter’s arrival, but the reports did not establish an exact birth date.
The New York Post published its account before Game 3, when the Dodgers were preparing to try to recover from that two-game deficit. By the end of the night, the baseball situation had become more difficult, even after Smith supplied their biggest offensive moment.
Smith hit a two-run double in the sixth inning that briefly put Los Angeles ahead, 2–1. Milwaukee answered with consecutive home runs from Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell in the seventh and went on to win, 6–2, MLB’s game report confirmed.
The Game 3 defeat left the Dodgers trailing 3–0 in the best-of-seven series, one loss from elimination. Smith’s double had given them a chance to change the series, but the lead did not survive the next inning.
That result belongs to the competitive backdrop, not the family announcement. Cara’s post introduced Carter without drawing a connection between the birth and her husband’s performance, and there is no basis to attribute his play to the demands of becoming a parent again.
For a club that secured its 14th consecutive postseason berth in September, October again brings the pressure of extending a season. For the Smith family, it now also marks the arrival month of all three daughters.
