BALTIMORE – The Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback situation has deteriorated in a single afternoon. Backup Tyler Huntley is expected to miss “extended time” with a turf toe injury, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported, and starter Lamar Jackson is heading to injured reserve after a thumb injury in the same game.

Huntley left Sunday’s 36-10 road loss to the Buffalo Bills with a right toe injury. He had missed the previous two games with a groin problem. An MRI was scheduled for Monday to determine how long he will be sidelined.

The Ravens are 4-4 and have lost three straight games, according to Sporting News. The loss in Buffalo left them with two injured quarterbacks and a short week ahead. Huntley had stepped in earlier this season, leading the Ravens to a 30-23 overtime win over the Falcons while Jackson was out.

The Huntley update was carried by NBC Sports, which attributed the report to Rapoport.

Jackson’s injury came almost immediately. He was hurt on the Ravens’ first offensive play, when his throwing hand hit the wrist of Buffalo pass rusher Greg Rousseau, Field Level Media reported. Jackson showed the team’s trainers that his thumb was out of place and was ruled out a short time later.

Jackson will be placed on injured reserve and undergo surgery on his right thumb, according to the same report. Asked whether the injury could end his season, Ravens coach Jesse Minter answered, “Potentially. We’ll see where it goes.” Sporting News wrote that the two-time MVP has a good chance of missing the rest of the season.

The thumb injury came after Jackson had just returned from a three-game absence with a left ankle injury. He reappeared on the sideline in the third quarter with a splint on the thumb.

With both veterans out, undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano finished the game. Fagnano, the emergency third-string quarterback, also picked up a right foot injury but stayed in, Field Level Media reported.

The schedule offers little relief. Baltimore hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night. The Jaguars beat the Indianapolis Colts 42-7 on Sunday and led 28-0 at halftime.

Jacksonville also has injury concerns after that game. Defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton left with a knee injury, defensive end Travon Walker with a rib injury and safety Eric Murray with an elbow injury, Field Level Media reported.

The Ravens have not announced an official timetable for Huntley’s return in the reports reviewed. They also have not said who will start at quarterback against Jacksonville, or whether they will add a quarterback from outside the organization.
