Tales of Destiny players have found a way to bring Stahn Aileron’s younger sister into the party without using the familiar recruitment exploit. The catch is that reaching Lilith’s joining scene does not necessarily mean the rest of the adventure will work normally.
A newly documented route requires players to avoid ordinary role-playing habits, including taking items from civilian homes and manually changing Stahn’s weapon during the first part of the game. Even speaking to Lilith one time too many can spoil the attempt, according to the researchers’ instructions.
The finding arrives nearly 29 years after the original game’s December 23, 1997 release. It establishes a distinction that matters to anyone planning a replay: an existing recruitment event can be reached through gameplay, but the Japanese first release can then encounter a bug that blocks story progression.
The Japanese fan site Majestic Phantasian documented the route in notes dated November 1. Its author says the instructions were verified twice, while explicitly warning that the listed conditions may not be exhaustive. That caveat makes the page a working research record rather than a guarantee that every requirement has been isolated.
The site’s guiding idea is to play a clean, good-natured Stahn who listens to people. In practice, that means following destination instructions and avoiding the dialogue in which companions scold him for heading the wrong way. Dungeon treasure and certain warehouse chests remain permissible. This is not simply a challenge to finish the game without collecting anything.
Some restrictions begin almost immediately. The notes prohibit taking the Apple Gel from the toilet aboard the opening flying vessel or eating the available curry. Later, players must buy something during a particular weapon-shop conversation, even though the dialogue does not change depending on whether a purchase is made. An apparently inconsequential shopping decision can therefore matter much later.
The first visit to Stahn’s hometown has another unusually narrow condition: speak to Lilith exactly once. The route also requires seeing Mary’s past event and collecting Dalis’s sword. Other parts of the checklist remain less certain. The author marks a possible fleet-battle score requirement with a question mark rather than presenting it as a settled rule.
That mixture of explicit prohibitions and unresolved conditions helps explain the difficulty of reproducing the discovery. A player can reach the eventual recruitment window without knowing that a much earlier conversation or item pickup has already closed it. The published route gives returning players something concrete to follow, but it does not yet establish the smallest possible set of necessary actions.
The decisive sequence takes place during the second part of the game, when Stahn leaves Lienea on an errand to buy fish. Before reaching the harbor at Neuestadt, the guide says players need at least 10,150 gald: 150 for the fish and another 10,000 for a Silver Ladle offered by a peddler.
If the earlier conditions have been satisfied, the merchant appears around that purchase sequence. The author warns that a missing merchant or unavailable stock signals a failed condition somewhere along the route. Once obtained, the ladle must not be sold or discarded. Returning to Stahn’s house, completing the reunion sequence involving Philia, leaving the building and speaking to Lilith then triggers her recruitment.
An English-language demonstration has also surfaced. In the description accompanying a November 2 upload, Kevangelion’s recruitment video credits testing with SymphoniaLauren and assistance from Mziab and Ethanol. The video is presented as a demonstration in the North American PlayStation release, extending the finding beyond the Japanese instructions.
The distinction between editions remains essential. Majestic Phantasian identifies the initial Japanese release, SLPS 01100, as the version in which the joining event works. Its notes say the later BEST edition, SLPS 91111, does not support that recruitment event, and describe the status of another revision more tentatively. Those statements should not be collapsed into a claim that every original PlayStation copy behaves identically.
There is a further complication after Lilith joins. On the Japanese first release, the site reports that entering Neuestadt fails to trigger the next conversation with Philia, leaving the story unable to advance. Its workaround is to save before entering the town and load that save using the BEST edition, where the necessary event does occur.
That warning limits what the discovery proves. It demonstrates a route to a recruitment scene without the familiar exploit; it does not establish an entirely bug-free playthrough on the original Japanese disc. The North American demonstration confirms a joining scene, but the material reviewed here does not establish identical post-recruitment behavior across all regional releases and revisions.

For players following the Japanese first-release instructions, the next important discovery may be less dramatic than Lilith joining the party. It is whether the following conversation starts at all.
