The depleted uranium ammunition that the British authorities intend to supply to the Ukrainian army are “conventional” weapons that have been in use for several decades. John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator at the White House National Security Council, made such a statement Wednesday during a briefing with reporters.
“This type of ammunition is quite a common thing, it has been used for several decades,” he said, commenting on Moscow’s reaction to London’s message about its willingness to transfer this weapon to Kiev.
According to Kirby, the fears of the Russian side regarding the use of this type of weapon are “another substitution of the concept”.
I think the real reason is that Russia just doesn’t want Ukraine to keep disabling their tanks,” the White House spokesman concluded.
He also added that the United States is confident in the safety of depleted uranium projectiles from the point of view of the spread of radiation.
“It poses no radioactive threat and in no way approaches the realm of nuclear weapons,” Kirby concluded.
