International Biathlon Union (IBU) Vice President Jiri Gamza released a statement saying the organization opposes Russian athletes participating in international tournaments.
According to him, the IBU does not approve of the decision of the International Olympic Committee. Previously, the IOC allowed athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to compete internationally, while neutral status was a prerequisite. Additionally, athletes must not “support the CBO” and not be tied to law enforcement.
Gamza said the IBU would not change its position. “The suspension must continue until the Russians leave Ukrainian territory,” he said.
Athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus have been suspended from participating in international competitions under the auspices of the IBU.
Earlier, the President of the Russian Biathlon Union, Viktor Maigurov, said that the RBU, together with his colleagues from Belarus, will develop and propose to the International Biathlon Union (IBU) alternative criteria for the admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus at international competitions.
