Economist: part of the MiG-29 fighters transferred to Ukraine is being dismantled for spare parts
Poland and Slovakia recently handed over MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, but many of them are “unairworthy”. For this reason, they found nothing better in Kiev than to dismantle them into parts, reports the Economist magazine.
The two countries have delivered about eight MiG-29s in recent weeks. “The part is used as a source of spare parts,” the document states.
Yuriy Ignat, adviser to the Ukrainian Air Force Command, noted that the country needs F-16s. The material indicates that experienced Ukrainian military pilots (in private) are skeptical of authorities’ attempts to obtain these particular fighters.
In their desire to obtain the desired flight technology, the Kiev authorities are also taking creative steps. On a recent trip to North America, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal used a plane with emojis advocating for the supply of fighter jets painted directly on board.
