Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The Ministry of Defense warned of the consequences of the Ukrainian attack on the Black Sea Fleet

Attacks staged by the Kiev regime against Russia’s Black Sea Fleet call into question the extension of the grain deal, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The department recalled that in addition to April 24, a similar attack was launched on March 23 and both violated guarantees given by Kiev. As previously reported, Ukrainian drones attacked the base of the Black Sea Fleet in the city of Sevastopol and civilian infrastructure in Crimea.

The Ministry of Defense reported that for the attack, Ukrainian armed formations used the port of Odessa, which is used in the implementation of the grain agreement, as agreed by the parties. The ministry also recalled that in October last year, after in response to the Ukrainian attack on ships of the Black Sea Fleet and civilian vessels involved in the implementation of the agreement, Russia had suspended the implementation of the agreement. It resumed only after the provision of guarantees from Turkey, as well as written commitments from the authorities in Kiev not to use the humanitarian corridor and the ports for combat operations against Russia.

The grain agreement was concluded on July 22, 2022. Within its framework, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN agreed to organize the export of food from Ukrainian ports. From March 18, 2023, the agreement was extended for 60 days, until May 18.
