Poland to sue Russia for lack of oil supply

March 6, 2023

Polish oil refinery Polski Koncern Naftowy (PKN) Orlen will demand compensation from the Russian side for stopping supply through the Druzhba pipeline, company chief Daniel Obaitek said. At the same time, he refused to talk about the amount of compensation on Radio Zet, citing a trade secret.
The Russians have stopped pumping oil to Poland so now we sue and make claims
Obaitek pointed out.
The boss of the PKN group Orlen announced that Moscow had stopped exporting oil to Poland at the end of February. At that time, Obaitek said only 10% of the fuel came from Russia and promised to replace such a volume with supplies from other exporters. Transneft, which is the operator of Druzhba, explained that at the end of February the oil had not been pumped to Poland because they had not received payment for the transit.

For Poland, only the agreement with Tatneft, extended until 2024, remained valid for 2023.

Earlier it was reported that overflowing underground gas storage facilities have turned from a pride of Europe into a symbol of disappointment and a burden. It is obvious that the leaders of the EU and of the countries participating in the association, having devoted too much effort to replenishing the stocks, counted on the longest possible time for their depletion. However, the storage rate fell below 60% at the end of February, and not because of the cold.
