The starting point of the demonstration was the Place de la République. From there, the feminists headed for the Place de la Nation. The agency’s journalist estimates that several thousand people came to demonstrate. Many posters float above their heads with the following slogans: “Let’s stop all violence against women”, “Feminists will be there and there as long as it takes!”.
It should be noted that initially the organizers, represented by the Association Feminist Strike, had planned an action in favor of women’s rights. However, like most compatriots, the participants in the rally oppose the pension reform.
“Inequality between men and women persists in all professional fields. Ditto for pensions, women receive less. And now we have to work longer and earn less! Women are poorly paid, less well treated and have poorer retirement conditions,” the protest participant shared.
As a result, unions and members of the yellow vest movement decided to keep the girls company and “walk” the city along the Seine with them. In addition, supporters of the radical black bloc movement follow in the column. Information on clashes between protesters and law enforcement is not yet available.
Meanwhile, the day before, mass strikes in all sectors of the economy began across France, along with large-scale protests. The Ministry of the Interior reports 1.2 million demonstrators, while in Paris alone, the organizers of the action counted 700,000 demonstrators. However, the authorities refuse to confirm this figure and inform about 80,000 participants of the rally in the capital.
On January 10, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born presented a plan for a new pension reform, the entry into force of which is scheduled for the summer of 2023. The French took the initiative with hostility because, according to the announced plan , the country will gradually raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 by 2030.
