The election of the head of state took place during the third plenary session of the first session of the 14th NPC during a secret ballot.

Thus, Xi Jinping, who turns 70 this year, became the first president in Chinese history to be elected for a third term. He was first elected president on March 14, 2013, and on March 17, 2018, Xi Jinping was re-elected for a second five-year term.

Xi Jinping was also re-elected as head of China’s Central Military Commission. It is a state body that exercises the direction and unified command of all the armed forces of the country.

In addition, deputies to the National People’s Congress on Friday elected first vice premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Han Zheng as vice president of the People’s Republic of China.
