Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Serbian General Mladic celebrated his 81st birthday in prison

worldwide

Former Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic celebrated his 81st birthday in a prison in The Hague. His son Darko Mladic told RIA Novosti that his father’s health was weakened.

In the summer of 2021, the courts of the Appeals Chamber of the International Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals approved Mladic’s life sentence. The general is accused of war crimes, including the genocide in the town of Srebrenica, in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1995. Serbian authorities have declared their disagreement with the verdict.

Darko Mladic said the family donated watches and books to the general. According to him, the father is weak and has difficulty moving.

The general’s attorneys are working to review the appeal verdict and are in contact with the prisoner.

Mladic commanded the Army of the Republic during the 1992-1995 conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina and was arrested in 2011 and sentenced to life imprisonment.
