The MiG-29 fighters, which Poland and Slovakia intend to transfer to Kiev, are outdated and ineffective in the fight against cruise missiles and drones. The corresponding statement was made by the representative of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU), Yuriy Ignat.

On the air of the Rada television channel, Ignat noted that these MIGs cannot be effective against modern weapons systems.

  • The technology is outdated. They cannot perform these functions effectively,” the speaker noted.

The Air Force representative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine added that today there are five tactical fighter aviation brigades in Ukraine. Two of them consist of Su – 27, three – of MiG – 29. At the same time, these resources are not enough for an offensive operation, Ignat stressed.

He suggested that the aircraft partially supplied to Ukraine could be used as donor spares. Today, the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have the opportunity to produce unique spare parts in their factories, since the aircraft currently in service were produced during the times of the USSR in Russia.

In the coming days, Poland is ready to transfer four MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, as President Andrzej Duda announced the day before. The Slovak authorities have also announced their intention to supply planes to Kiev.
