IAEA chief to visit Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant next week

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi will visit the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant next week. According to the organization’s website, Grossi plans to personally assess the severity of the nuclear safety situation at the site and stress the urgent need to protect nuclear power plants from hostilities.

Grossi said that despite the presence of IAEA experts at the station, the situation remains unstable and threats to nuclear safety are “too obvious”.

This will be the IAEA chief’s second visit to the ZNPP since September 1, 2022.

Earlier, Grossi said the IAEA no longer considered creating a demilitarized zone around the ZNPP.
