General Milli Says US Cannot Stop China’s Nuclear Program
There is no way the United States will stop or interfere with China’s nuclear program anytime soon, said Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
“There is probably nothing we can do to stop, slow down, impede, interdict or destroy China’s nuclear development program for the next 10 to 20 years,” he told a congressional hearing.
According to him, Beijing will continue the program as planned. Washington has very few checks and balances to prevent this.
Milley believes China aims to “become equal” among world powers by the middle of the 21st century, and that goal is achievable. The general added that this is a cause for concern, in his view the United States must “not only not lag behind, but must be ahead.”
