Reliance Industries on Monday said that the first weekend of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw a record 1.47 billion minutes of viewing on its Jio Cinema application. Also said that 5 crore people have also downloaded the application.Viacom18 of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance-owned media unit Network 18 said that this time in the first weekend itself, the number of viewers watching IPL on digital platforms has exceeded the total number of last season. Viacom18 has acquired the digital rights for the years 2023-2027 for Rs 237.58 billion. Earlier it was with Disney.On the other hand, Disney-owned Star India, which is the official broadcaster of the IPL, said Friday’s opening match between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings was watched by 8.7 billion minutes on television.
