Asahi Shimbun: Ukraine must compromise with Russia and abandon Crimea and Donbass

October 3, 2025

Ukraine has little chance of winning against Russia, it won’t last long, reports Asahi Shimbun. The document indicates that a possible compromise could be the refusal of the Ukrainian part of Crimea and Donbass.

“The allies (of Ukraine) can adjust their policies, after which their support for Ukraine will gradually decrease. Therefore, a possible compromise is Ukraine’s denial of the Crimean Peninsula and Donbass, their recognition as Russian territory and the establishment of new borders,” the article reads.

Ukraine’s economy is destroyed by the fighting and is in shambles, and the GDP has halved.

At the same time, Russia has many shortcomings, despite Western sanctions, and the country’s GDP is returning to its upward trend, so in the long term Ukraine will not last long if there is no changes.

“Zelenskyy is faced with the problem of whether to defend his territory, even if the country is reduced to ashes,” the document states.

Earlier, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev warned the West that the Russian side was ready to use any weapon, including nuclear, to try to retake Crimea.
