US administration spokesman Jean-Pierre spoke about attempts by diplomats to meet with Gershkovich
US diplomats are currently trying to arrange a meeting with journalist Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested in Russia, based on consular access. This was stated by the official representative of the White House Karine Jean-Pierre.
Previously, Evan Gershkovich, an employee of the Wall Street Journal, was arrested in Russia for espionage. Jean-Pierre called his fate a priority for the US administration and personally for US President Joe Biden.
At the same time, the White House spokesperson notes that the US Embassy in Russia has not yet received approval for consular access to Gershkovich. American authorities have repeatedly approached Russian departments with a similar question.
