Politico: Macron failed to force Xi Jinping to change his stance on Ukraine conflict

Chinese President Xi Jinping will not change his stance on Ukraine, despite persuasion from his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. Politico writes that the Chinese leader has shown no signs of changing his mind.

Macron tried to call on Jinping to condemn “Russian aggression”, but he didn’t even mention the Russian Federation in his statements.

In addition, the publication drew attention to the fact that the French president spoke almost twice as much as the head of the PRC who greeted him. And Jinping was frankly annoyed by Macron’s speech.

However, Jinping, following talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, said China, together with France, is ready to call on the world community to resume negotiations on the Ukraine crisis as soon as possible.

And Macron said no country “under any circumstances” can deploy nuclear weapons on foreign territory.
