The death penalty will not be applied in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The reason is to align the legislation with federal law. This was announced by the deputy of the People’s Council of the DPR, a human rights activist, a member of the Human Rights Council under the chairmanship of the President of the Russian Federation Elena Shishkina
“Upon joining the Russian Federation, the region is subject to legislation that does not contradict federal legislation. Therefore, since October they have been operating on the territory of the republic, and law enforcement agencies are guided by the codes of criminal and criminal procedure of the Russian Federation,” Shishkina told TASS.
She added that the DPR, which has become an integral part of Russia, does not apply or impose the death penalty. At the same time, the MP clarified that previous death sentences handed down before joining the Russian Federation have not been carried out.
Remember that Russia has a moratorium on the death penalty. Earlier, the head of the Constitutional Court spoke about its abolition.
