Chelsea re-appoint Frank Lampard as coach until the end of the season

April 7, 2023

Chelsea Football Club announced today the appointment of Frank Lampard as coach of the team on a temporary basis until the end of the season, two years after his departure from the team. Chelsea, who recently sacked Graham Potter as coach, have reached an agreement with Lampard to take charge of the team. Lampard previously trained Chelsea (who shone in his ranks as a player between 2001 and 2014, and crowned the local league champion three times and the European Champions League in 2012), from July 2019 to January 2021, when he was replaced by German coach Thomas Tuchel. Lampard, a former Chelsea and England midfielder, had been without work since last January, when he left the relegation-threatened Everton team, less than a year after he took over. Chelsea will have nine remaining matches in the English Premier League this season, starting with the match against Wolverhampton the day after tomorrow (Saturday), and then coming against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. Chelsea ranks eleventh in the English Premier League standings with 39 points.
