Amendments on life imprisonment for participation in international terrorism have been submitted to the Russian State Duma and submitted to the Russian State Duma. Vasily Piskarev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, announced this on his Telegram channel.
“Changes have been made to strengthen accountability for terrorism,” Piskarev wrote.
Thus, under Article 361 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Act of international terrorism”), the minimum penalty can be increased from 10 to 12 years, the maximum penalty can be up to life imprisonment.
In addition, Piskarev noted, it is proposed to increase the maximum penalty for a terrorist act (from 15 to 20 years), organization of a terrorist community and participation in it (from 10 to 15 years) , sabotage (from 15 to 20 years). It is also proposed that life imprisonment become the maximum penalty for high treason.
Since the amendments to the Criminal Code have been prepared for the bill already passed the first reading, they can be considered quickly, Piskarev added.
