Hungary will tighten controls on grain from Ukraine, the country’s agriculture ministry has said.
The ministry said in a statement that the EU should introduce customs duties and quotas on the import of Ukrainian grain. The Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture believes that such measures are necessary to protect the interests of European farmers, as farmers suffer losses due to the supply of Ukrainian agricultural products to local markets.
Earlier it was reported that despite the statement of Polish and Ukrainian ministers on the suspension of grain imports from Ukraine, Polish farmers have no intention of stopping the protests. As reported, the farmers do not cancel the three-day blockade of the border crossing with Ukraine announced on Wednesday.
It was also reported that more than seven thousand Romanian farmers protested against the actions of European authorities aimed at supporting Ukrainian grain producers. To draw attention to their problems, they blocked city streets and national highways with tractors for several hours. Demonstrations took place in 18 counties in Romania, as well as in the country’s capital.
