French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that Europe should not become a party to the conflict in the confrontation between the United States and China over Taiwan. The French leader said so in an interview with Les Echos.
“Are we interested in accelerating the resolution of the problem with Taiwan? No. The worst would be to think that we Europeans should follow suit and adapt to the American rhythm and the Chinese overreaction,” he said.
According to Macron, Europe should not adapt to the “American rhythm”. The French president advised Europeans themselves to “wake up” and think about their interests.
Earlier, Michael McCall, chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, said that if China invades Taiwan, the United States would be ready to send its troops there.
