FT: China explained why Blinken was not allowed to come to Beijing

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has been denied permission to travel to Beijing. This could be explained by fears that the FBI will publish the results of an investigation into a Chinese balloon shot down by the American military on American soil in February. It is reported by the Financial Times.

“Four people familiar with the talks said China told the United States it was not ready to choose a new date for the trip, which Blinken canceled in February, when it is still unclear. not what US President Joe Biden’s administration will do with the report,” he said. .)according to a British newspaper publication.

Chinese officials, the author of the document points out, are concerned about the possibility of making the report and the physical evidence of the balloon public. It is possible that the results will be released during Blinken’s trip to Beijing.

Notably, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang at the China Development Forum in March called the investigation one of the issues hampering progress in Beijing-Washington relations. The Financial Times writes that some US officials really want the results made public.

The British newspaper also cited a second possible reason for the PRC’s refusal of Blinken. Chinese authorities may be unhappy that U.S. politicians, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, have met with Taiwan chief of staff Tsai Ing-wen.

Previously, NBC reported that the Chinese balloon was able to collect data from several US military sites. And, according to the broadcaster, he could have reaped a lot more had it not been for Washington’s efforts to interfere with that process.
