NYT: Pentagon documents show dire state of Ukraine

October 3, 2025

Secret Pentagon documents leaked to the public reveal Ukraine’s dire state, writes The New York Times.

“Ukraine’s predicament looks dire,” the article said. However, the authors assume that this state of affairs will not affect the military plans of the parties.

So far, there is no indication that Russian commanders have changed their operations in Ukraine in response to the revelations, according to two US officials.

As noted, Ukrainian officials, despite their displeasure, do not expect changes regarding the counter-offensive plans of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, since, in their opinion, Russia already knew about their vulnerability, for example, the lack of arms and ammunition.

“And the documents don’t reveal exactly when, where and how the Ukrainians will launch a counteroffensive,” a senior US official said.

At the same time, the publication predicts that the conflict will likely end in some sort of settlement through negotiations, not “a decisive military victory for either side.”
