New Delhi. Tata Motors has announced that it is going to launch the Altroz iCNG hatchback later this week. The carmaker said that the CNG version of the Altroz that was showcased at the Auto Expo in January this year will now be officially launched on April 19. The Altroz premium hatchback car will be the third CNG car to come from Tata. After this, the carmaker will soon launch the CNG version of its smallest SUV Punch. The price of the CNG model can be more than one lakh rupees than the petrol. When launched, it will compete with models like Baleno CNG and Glanza CNG.
The Tata Altroz CNG version will not be visually different from the currently sold model. CNG badging will be seen to make it different from the petrol model. However, one thing that will make the Tata Altroz stand out is Tata’s twin-cylinder CNG technology, which will allow more luggage space in the boot space of the car even when kitted up. It will be the first CNG car in the country to come with two cylinders. Tata Motors has removed the spare wheel to accommodate two smaller CNG tanks.
The same technique will be found in Punch Bhi as well. The same technology has been used in the upcoming CNG version of the Punch SUV. The CNG kit is placed down and on a flat surface. The earlier CNG models like Tiago and Tigor had conventional CNG cylinders placed inside the boot space, leaving almost no luggage space.
Powerful engine will be available in the car Tata Motors will launch the Altroz CNG with the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Tiago and Tigor CNG versions. Mated to a manual gearbox, this engine will generate 73 bhp power and 95 Nm torque in ICNG mode. Without the CNG kit, the engine is capable of generating 84.82 bhp power and 113 Nm peak torque.
