NATO member states will only be able to consider admitting Ukraine to the alliance after the end of hostilities. This statement was made by Czech President Petr Pavel after talks with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, which took place in Brussels.
“NATO countries will only be able to consider accepting Ukraine into the alliance when hostilities are over,” TASS reports.
According to the Czech leader, Western states will have to provide Ukraine with comprehensive and long-term support.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said the country was betting big on the upcoming NATO summit in Lithuania and hoped to receive an invitation to the North Atlantic bloc after members of the the alliance in July. According to him, Kiev expects to receive security guarantees from NATO countries and believes that the best protection is for Ukraine to become a member of a military bloc.
