Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said NATO was promising to accept Ukraine into its membership to motivate it to achieve the alliance’s goal of “defeating” Russia.
“NATO sets itself the goal of “winning”> Russia in Ukraine, and to motivate Kiev, it promises that after the end of the conflict, the country can be accepted into the alliance. Such statements are short-sighted and downright dangerous. This can lead to the final collapse of the European security system,” Zakharova explained.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during his visit to Kiev, said that all countries of the alliance are in agreement for Ukraine to become a member.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in turn, said that NATO should accept the country into the alliance in July this year.
However, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was surprised by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s statement that all members of the alliance are waiting for Ukraine to join NATO.
