The 40th Weifang International Kite Festival, held from April 15 to May 15 in Weifang city of east China’s Shandong province, is attracting kite lovers from across China and other countries. According to the organisers, more than 600 kite lovers from 59 countries and regions will participate this year. Many foreigners are participating in the festival, including many foreigners, who did not attend the annual event in the last three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With a giant bird-shaped kite, Russians came to the kite festival. Stanislav Kolbintsev believes that “Weifang is very famous among kite lovers around the world. He said he was amazed by China’s long history of kite flying and the huge public enthusiasm for the sport. Dozens of foreign students from Weifang Medical University were also present at the kite festival. Indian student Arindam Adhikari said that “I love to fly kites since childhood. In India too, kites are flown on many festivals. Let us tell you that the first Weifang International Kite Festival was organized in 1984. Since then the festival has grown in scale and international influence, as well as the continued emergence of China. Known as the “Capital of Kites”, Weifang has a long history of kite-making, with some records dating back 2,000 years. The first wooden kites were invented during the Spring and Autumn period.
