Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirms death of embassy employee in Sudan

An Egyptian diplomat was killed in Khartoum when an embassy car was shot down. The killing of an embassy employee in Sudan has been confirmed by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

“Muhammad El-Gharrawi was killed on his way to the embassy to oversee evacuation procedures for Egyptians stranded in Sudan,” Egypt’s foreign ministry said in a statement to Reuters.

According to the agency, the Sudanese army also confirmed the death of an assistant to the Egyptian attache and specified that the diplomat “was killed by fire from paramilitary operational support forces”.

Earlier, it was reported that the diplomat was shot “by the rebel groups while driving his car, on the main road of As-Seyyid Abd Ar-Rahman Street”.

According to Africanist Natalia Piskunova, associate professor at the Faculty of Global Politics at Moscow State University, there is no consoling forecast yet for the resolution of the Sudanese conflict. The clash between the army and special forces in Sudan has already led to the death of 600 people.
