The schismatics of the OCU (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) abandoned the icon of the Kazan Mother of God because of her name. According to the Union of Orthodox Journalists, the reason lies in the similarity between the name of the icon and the Russian city of Kazan, which is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan.
On April 19 this year, the head of the OVA Khmelnytsky, Sergey Tyurin, re-registered the community charter in honor of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God of the UOC in the community charter of the Mother of God Pochaev of the OCU. It is known that the Orthodox Church was captured by schismatics during the attack on April 4, 2023.
The OCU was afraid of the similarity of names, so it was decided to rename. Oleg Yanitsky, deputy of the Khmelnytsky city council, was appointed head of the parish council.
Earlier, the “regional leader” reported that during the storming of the church building in Ivano-Frankivsk, one of the Ukrainian nationalists crossed himself and began to break down the door. The video with the controversial behavior of the nationalists is published by Ukrainian sources who oppose the persecution of the UOC.
