Rula Amin, a spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said in an interview with Sky News Arabia on Sunday that 50,000 Sudanese have crossed the border into neighboring countries since fighting broke out in the country in mid-April.
Rola Amin stated that the Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries were distributed as follows: 20 thousand arrived in Chad. 14 thousand arrived in South Sudan. The Egyptian authorities are talking about the arrival of 16,000 people, including 14,000 Sudanese. 33 thousand Sudanese have been displaced from the capital, Khartoum, to other regions of the country.
The UNHCR official stated that these numbers are likely to increase if the fighting continues. More than 15 million people in Sudan before the current crisis depended on humanitarian assistance.
The deteriorating security situation led to the deterioration of the situation and the suspension of most of the activities of humanitarian organizations, such as the UNHCR, which suspended its activities in places where fighting is intense, such as Khartoum, according to the UNHCR official. This means that those dependent on humanitarian aid have been deprived of it, and the number of people who need aid has increased due to the recent fighting, but unfortunately they cannot be reached, and this is a very dangerous situation. And she demanded that they provide international organizations with safe ways so that they can deliver aid to all who need it. She called for international pressure on the belligerents to secure this, noting that the priority now is a cease-fire. It painted a difficult picture of the situation in Sudan.
