After 6 years and hundreds of kilometers, a woman finds her dog

May 1, 2023

And workers at the Huntington Cabel Wayne animal shelter say a couple recently brought in a ‘Pitbull’ dog, after finding him wandering alone in the ‘East Lynn’ lake area of Wayne County, Virginia- Western.

The dog was scanned for a microchip (which is implanted in dogs as an identification tag), and was identified as the chef and his owner, Tara Hillis, of Atlanta, Georgia, according to United Press International.

Hillis told shelter officials that Chief had been missing for 6 years, pointing out that he was about a year and a half when he wandered away from home and disappeared.

She told a local TV station that the dog “managed to escape after jumping off the fence or digging under it”.

Shelter officials said there was ‘no indication of Chief’s whereabouts over the past six years, or how far he had traveled 750 kilometers from home’, but pointed out that “the dog is friendly and healthy”.

It also turned out that “Chef” was discovered about a week before he arrived at the shelter, by guards from the US Army Corps of Engineers who manage the lake, but he managed to escape again before the couple don’t find him.

Hillis and Chief are supposed to be reunited on Tuesday.
