Prime Minister Modi should go to Jantar Mantar and listen to the thoughts of women wrestlers: Sibal

– Published on:

New Delhi. Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Jantar Mantar to listen to the “mann ki baat” of protesting women wrestlers, saying such a move would prove that the prime minister is ready to understand their pain.

Senior advocate Sibal is representing the wrestlers in the Supreme Court. His remarks came a day after the 100th episode of Modi’s Mann Ki Baat radio program was broadcast. Sibal tweeted, “Modi ji: Congratulations on your 100th ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. Modi ji, if you have time, please visit Jantar Mantar and listen to the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ of the protesting women wrestlers.

“It will show that our Prime Minister is ready to understand their pain,” he said. Two FIRs were registered on Friday.

Both these FIRs were registered hours after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Delhi Police, told a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha that the case would be registered on Friday. The first FIR pertains to the allegations of a minor wrestler and has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, while the second pertains to outraging the modesty of women.

Several wrestlers, who have brought laurels to the country in international competitions, are protesting at Jantar Mantar, demanding that the government make public the findings of the monitoring committee probing the allegations of sexual harassment against Singh. The wrestlers have insisted that they will not leave the protest site until Singh is arrested. They resumed their sit-in last week and demanded that the findings of the committee probing the allegations be made public.
