Norway’s prime minister announces plans to increase defense spending to 2% of GDP

Norway intends to increase defense spending to 2% of GDP. Prime Minister Jonas Gara Stere announced the relevant plans to Reuters.

By the end of this year, this expenditure item will exceed 1.4% of GDP, according to state budget forecasts. This figure is expected to increase to 2% by 2026. Thus, Norway intends to achieve the long-standing goal of states that are part of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Earlier, Commander-in-Chief of the Norwegian Navy Rune Andersen spoke about modern submarines in service with Russia. According to the speaker, they can pose a hazard to installations in the United States and Europe.

On March 10, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram in Kiev. In particular, the countries began to discuss the training of Ukrainian Armed Forces pilots with Norwegian instructors.
