May 3, 2023

Agencies – Khartoum:

Sporadic clashes and air raids continued during the past hours in several parts of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, despite the announcement of a new 72-hour truce approved by the army and the Rapid Support Forces. The bloody clashes, which entered their third week, caused the displacement of tens of thousands of Sudanese to neighboring countries such as Egypt, Chad, and Central Africa.

For its part, the Sudanese Medical Association announced that all public hospitals in the capital, Khartoum, have stopped working, due to armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

For its part, the Rapid Support Forces said that they were able to shoot down an army MiG plane, stressing that they will face any army encroachment on the locations where their forces are stationed or on the homes of defenseless citizens.

For his part, United Nations officials said that more than 100,000 refugees have crossed so far from Sudan to neighboring countries to escape the conflict that erupted last month, while hundreds of thousands have been displaced inside the country.

“It is estimated that more than 100,000 refugees have now crossed into neighboring countries, including Sudanese refugees,” Olga Sarrado, spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), told a news briefing in Geneva.
