UAE, WHO airlift medical aid to Sudan

Abu Dhabi / Khartoum. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have airlifted the first consignment of medical aid to Sudan. WHO gave this information.

The WHO said in a statement on Friday that the UAE and the WHO have today supplied 30 tons of urgent medical aid to Sudan. A plane carrying supplies for emergency surgery and medicines arrived at Port Sudan airport in the morning, the statement said. According to the release, the consignment is valued at $444,000 and includes enough medical supplies and medicines for up to 165,000 people.

The WHO said that this is the first consignment that WHO has airlifted to Sudan since the start of the conflict. According to Sudan’s health ministry, nearly 600 people have been killed in the conflict so far. Meanwhile, WHO has reported more than 400 dead and more than 4,000 injured.
