WTC Final 2023Ishan Kishan has been included in the Indian squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval in June as a replacement for the injured KL Rahul. Lucknow Super Giants captain Rahul has been ruled out of the IPL and WTC finals due to a thigh injury. According to a statement issued by the BCCI, a decision will be taken later on whether Jaydev Unadkat, who injured his left shoulder during training in the IPL, will go to the WTC final.

Kishan is uncapped in Test cricket, but has played 14 ODIs and 27 T20Is so far. He is the second wicket-keeper in India’s WTC team after KS Bharath. Bharat recently made his Test debut against Australia in February this year in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

Rahul had already announced on social media, he will now undergo surgery and later report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehab.

Umesh Yadav has also joined the injury list after injuring his hamstring during Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 26. Pacer Umesh has not played for KKR since then but has resumed ‘low intensity bowling’. The BCCI medical team is working with the KKR staff to ensure Umesh is fit and is ‘closely monitoring’ his progress.

With both Rahul and Shreyas Iyer injured, Ajinkya Rahane could make a comeback in India’s playing XI. He played the last Test for India in January 2022. Former India coach Ravi Shastri supported Rahane’s inclusion in the team, citing his desire to play Ranji.

Rahane has been included in Team India, so he will not be able to make his county debut for Leicestershire at the moment. It is worth noting that with this team, he had expressed his desire to play 8 red ball matches and complete 50 over competition. Cheteshwar Pujara is already in the UK and has been in scintillating form, scoring three hundreds in four matches for Sussex in county cricket.

Meanwhile, batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad and seamer Mukesh Kumar have been included as standby players for the WTC final. Of them, only Suryakumar has Test match experience, having made his debut against Australia in Nagpur in February.

Indian team for WTC Final 2023: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat (wk), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan (wicket keeper)

Standby Player: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav
