3 points… a Libyan-Tunisian agreement to get out of the doctors’ crisis

– Published on:

Al-Ghouj presents to “Sky News Arabia” the reasons for the signing of this agreement, which comes amid the obstacles faced by Libyan patients during their treatment in Libya, as well as the problems that arise as a result of the work of the Tunisian doctors in Libya outside the law.

Obstacles in Libya and Tunisia

The Syndicate of Libyan Doctors explains the reasons for signing the agreement:

Complaints from Libyan patients in Tunisia for not providing treatment reports for their medical condition. High treatment costs in Tunisia for Libyans. Some medical errors. The spread of the phenomenon of Tunisian doctors practicing in the private sector in Libya outside the legal framework, and without obtaining the necessary authorizations to practice the profession.

In order to overcome the obstacles, a joint committee was formed between the health office of the Libyan embassy and the deanship of doctors in Tunisia, to ensure the quality of medical services provided to Libyans, explains Al-Ghouj.

Right Behavior

The agreement is based on reciprocity regarding the licensing of doctors to work in the two countries, in addition to the health services provided to Libyans in Tunisia.

The agreement stipulates, according to what Al-Gog presented, that:

Allow Tunisian doctors to work in the private sector in Libya, provided that they are subject to Libyan laws and regulations through the licenses and permits granted to them. Allow Libyan doctors wishing to train in the health sector in Tunisia to practice the profession after having obtained authorizations allowing them to do so, and to train them under the supervision of Tunisian doctors. Allow Libyan doctors to work in Tunisia under certain conditions and standards, and in coordination with the ministries of health in Libya and Tunisia.

The President of the General Syndicate of Doctors of Libya concluded his speech by saying that he hopes this agreement will achieve all the desired objectives, to provide all health services to patients in Libya and to protect the rights of doctors in Libya. the country.

Health services and institutions in Libya have suffered a major setback since the spread of security chaos in the country in 2011, the rapid change of government and the control of militias over public facilities, including health, especially in the west of the country.

This situation has led to the emigration of Libyan doctors abroad, difficulties in studying medicine inside the country and the disruption of projects for the development of health establishments and the supply of equipment and medicines.
